Hey Kids! The Sheridan County Museum is pleased to introduce Tidbit, the Sheridan County Museum Mouse. When Tidbit first moved into the Museum, he had a good look around and found lots of exciting things that he wants to show you. As you visit the Museum, be sure to look for him in each exhibit. He'll be waiting for you so that he can share some of the fun tales and treasures of Sheridan County's history!
Tidbit Tuesday is the Museum’s free summer program that provides children and their families with an opportunity to explore history together. The program offers children and their families a chance to enjoy a read aloud story followed by a fun project on the Museum’s porch, has become a major success. The programs are recommended for children ages 5 to 10, though children both younger and older are welcome. All participating children, however, must be accompanied by an adult or responsible teenaged sibling or babysitter. The programs are free but participation is limited to 20 children for each session.
Beginning June 1, 2007, the Museum will offer a free program for children, the Junior Curator Program. To participate in the program, all you have to do is pick up a museum guide and activity book at the admission desk. The book is full of fun activities. Take the book with you as you visit the museum and fill out the activities. Once you finish your visit and complete the activities, take the book back to the desk and you will become a member of Tidbit’s Junior Curator Club! You’ll even get your very own Sheridan County Museum Junior Curator patch or bookmark!
After receiving 245 entries from pre-K through 8th grade children, the
Connor Isakson, who suggested “Trolley the Mouse,” and Delaney Crossan, who named the mouse “Alger” were announced as the runners-up. Connor and Delaney each received a certificate and $20 in Chamber Bucks. The winning name, however, was submitted by 3rd grader Ashton Legerski who entered the name “Tidbit.” Ashton received $20 in Chamber Bucks, a $50 savings bond courtesy of Sheridan State Bank, and a trophy with both his name and his winning entry of “Tidbit” engraved on it.
The museum wishes to thank the following for their support with naming our new mascot:
Andy Wenburg, Dwight Layton, Mary Jo Johnson, Melissa Butcher and Sharie Mooney for serving as judges;
Sheridan State Bank for their donation of the $50 savings Bond;
Michelle Havenga and the staff from the Children’s Library for allowing us to collect entries at the library; and of course
Everyone that submitted names for our Museum mouse!
