For Kids

TidbitHey Kids! The Sheridan County Museum is pleased to introduce Tidbit, the Sheridan County Museum Mouse. When Tidbit first moved into the Museum, he had a good look around and found lots of exciting things that he wants to show you. As you visit the Museum, be sure to look for him in each exhibit. He'll be waiting for you so that he can share some of the fun tales and treasures of Sheridan County's history!

Tidbit Tuesdays

Tidbit Tuesday is the Museum’s free summer program that provides children and their families with an opportunity to explore history together. The program offers children and their families a chance to enjoy a read aloud story followed by a fun project on the Museum’s porch, has become a major success. The programs are recommended for children ages 5 to 10, though children both younger and older are welcome. All participating children, however, must be accompanied by an adult or responsible teenaged sibling or babysitter. The programs are free but participation is limited to 20 children for each session.

For the past two years, Tidbit Tuesdays have been held on the second Tuesday in June, July, and August. Due to popular demand, however, the Museum has expanded the program for the summer of 2010. This summer, Tidbit Tuesdays will be held every Tuesday from June 8 until August 24 and each program will be offered twice. Please see the schedule below for more details.

Naming our Mascot

Ashton and TidbitAfter receiving 245 entries from pre-K through 8th grade children, the Sheridan County Museum mouse finally has a name!  It took a team of five judges nearly an hour to sort through the entries and select just one name as the winner of each age category.  Then from among those three names, the winning name was selected

Connor Isakson, who suggested “Trolley the Mouse,” and Delaney Crossan, who named the mouse “Alger” were announced as the runners-up.  Connor and Delaney each received a certificate and $20 in Chamber Bucks.  The winning name, however, was submitted by 3rd grader Ashton Legerski who entered the name “Tidbit.”  Ashton received $20 in Chamber Bucks, a $50 savings bond courtesy of Sheridan State Bank, and a trophy with both his name and his winning entry of “Tidbit” engraved on it.

The museum wishes to thank the following for their support with naming our new mascot:

Andy Wenburg, Dwight Layton, Mary Jo Johnson, Melissa Butcher and Sharie Mooney for serving as judges;

Sheridan State Bank for their donation of the $50 savings Bond;

Michelle Havenga and the staff from the Children’s Library for allowing us to collect entries at the library; and of course

Everyone that submitted names for our Museum mouse!
