Sheridan County Memory Book ProjectMemory Book

The Sheridan County Memory Book Project was created to help preserve privately held photo collections, make them available to the public for education and enjoyment, and help raise funds for Sheridan County Historical Society projects.  By inviting contributors to share their photos, we hope to discover herteofore unknown glimpses of our past so that we can better appreciate our history, heritage, and culture.

This Project has been funded by generous grants from ERA Carroll Realty and the Homer A. and Mildred S. Scott Foundation.

How to Contribute Photos -- Look through your photos of people, places, or events, and call Dana Prater at 675-1150 for a scanning appointment.  It would really help if you can identify the locations, people, photographer, and approximate date your photos were taken.  Please do not write on the photos, but attach any information on a separate sheet or with a Post-it-Note on the back

Give Permission to Scan -- Just sign the use permit form and your photos will be scanned while you wait, or you can pick them up later.

A committee or the museum curator will evaluate and organize the photos, and help with identification and dating.

The CD production engineer will reproduce the photos in an electronic Memory Book which will run on most computers. This phase of the project has been delayed while we open the new Sheridan County Museum, but many of the photos will be available on our new interactive touch screen kiosk, coming soon to the Sheridan County Firsts exhibit area.

Since we began the project in 2002, over 4,000 images have been scanned. These images have been preserved in case something happens to your originals.

Photos from the Memory Book Project have been used in Sheridan County Museum exhibits, programs, local school classes, community celebrations, and by researchers.
